Because of the severe handicaps
and learning needs of the children, the challenge of The CYFS School is to provide
a specialized educational curriculum that is sensitive to each individual child.
Many students suffer from Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), others have severe
conduct disorders and others lack the intellectual, social and culturally accepted
parameters to participate in a public school setting.
The charge of the teachers
and educational guides in working with this diverse and challenged population
is to help each child attain their highest potential. This is done through individualized
learning plans and a staffing ratio of four to one. Each child is recognized
for his/her strengths and each child is assisted with meeting its challenges.
Our staff is all credentialed
teachers. Additionally, the school staff is assisted by a team of qualified
mental health professionals with Master's Degrees that are supervised by a licensed
psychologist. The depth of the school staff is unique and virtually unmatched
in the State. The dedication and commitment of the staff and leadership is documented
by thirty years of continuous high quality care to children from throughout
Oregon.
